Please help me make a difference in the quality of life of others
From July 21 - 24, 2016 I will be participating on the Red Ribbon Ride. Red Ribbon Ride is a 4 day, 300 mile bicycle ride that raises vital funds for eight HIV/AIDS service organizations in Minnesota; providing treatment, prevention and awareness.
Most of you will remember last year when I asked for your help in the form of a donation, well, I'm back again and want to make this an even stronger year. The money we raise for the Red Ribbon Ride is distributed among 8 HIV/AIDS service agencies here in Minnesota; African American AIDS Task Force, Clare Housing, Hope House of St. Croix Valley, Minnesota AIDS Project, One Heartland, Park House, Rural AIDS Action Network and The Aliveness Project.
Most of you also know that I have been living with HIV for the past 32 years. Over those years I've had my ups and downs. The first 10 years were the most difficult because there were very limited drugs out there to fight this disease. I also went through a lot of survivor guilt. I can say for sure that I've lost over 50 friends during the first 10 years. It was hard, very hard. I had one Doctor who said to me, "There’s not much I can do, you’re going to die anyway." I was so upset that he would even say something like that to anyone. So every year after that I made it a point to see him and say, "Hey Bernie, I'm still alive."
Through the years I've participated and in most of the AIDS Walks here in Minnesota and also in Atlanta. I've risen over $100,000 and pray it helped people out. I know it did. Last year was my first Red Ribbon Ride, matter of fact, my first AIDS ride. It was a very moving experience, it was tough at times, and it had a very emotional ending. I cherish those four days and what led up to them.
Last year I set an initial goal of $1,500. I raised that goal to $2,500. What happened after that was shockingly amazing. For my first year on this ride, I raised $8,550.00. I was shocked and so humbled to have so many good friends who raised that goal.
We have created a BEARS! DONTCA KNOW! team this year with lost of new riders and new goals.
I need your help to reach my goal. I hope I can count on you to support me on my journey of hope for thousands of Minnesotans with HIV/AIDS and those at risk of infection.
Over the next few months I plan to update this page frequently so you can follow my progress, so please visit often. While you're here, spend some time on the site to find out more about why this event is so important, and learn about the people who will benefit from the money we raise.
Thank you for your support!
