Making My Difference as a First Time Rider
Hi Friends ~
From July 21 - 24, 2016 I will be participating on the Red Ribbon Ride. Red Ribbon Ride is a 4 day, 300 mile bicycle ride that raises vital funds for eight HIV/AIDS service organizations in Minnesota; providing treatment, prevention and awareness.
In the last year and a half, I have immersed myself in efforts to reduce stigma and raise awareness around the realities of today's HIV epidemic... and yes, it's still an epidemic. In marginalized populations, rates are on the rise among low income people, communities of color and our youth. Within the LGBT community, at the current rates, 1:2 black men, 1:4 latino men and 1:6 white men will recieve a positive diagnosis in their lifetime. This is not acceptable!
Thanks to my brother, who lent me his bike, I will ride this July for my friends who are positive, my coworkers/colleagues who are passionate and our residents at Clare Housing who are as individually resilient as they are now safe in their place to call home.
Thanks for supporting me! - Chris :)
