2016 Red Ribbon Ride
Maybe my 6th consecutive Red Ribbon Ride? If I can raise $1,500 by Wednesday July 20th 7PM I will officially join the ride this year. I get to bike a little, contribute to a great organization, hang out with great groups of people while we fund raise and bring attention to and educate the public on the needs of people affected by HIV/AIDS.
This is a transition year for the Red Ribbon Ride and Team Shalom. Marni Zimlin has completely taken on the role as RRR director. She is imbuing the organization with a fresh look and fervor for fundraising. She has good taste in marketing -- putting my image on some of the posters and handout cards. Team Shalom has a fresh team of leadership with Harvey Zuckman, Caroline Shultz and Jackie Krammer leading the way.
The world of HIV/AIDS hasn't changed much in the last year. Research continues to inch closer to a cure, but keeps out of reach. Those with HIV continue to age at a quicker pace. Minorities and young people are disproportionately contrating HIV. Sadly the governor who was resonsible for cutting funds for HIV prevention in Indiana, which led to an outbreak of HIV is now running for Vice President.
