I Ride Because I Can
Dear Friends and Family,
Once again I will be participating in the Red Ribbon Ride for my 8th year. It is one of my "Happy Places", and I cannot wait to ride again.
For those of you who remember last year I wasn't able to ride for the first three days because I was looking for our dog Zane, (now known as “Little Shit”) so I am very excited for this year’s ride. The Red Ribbon Ride is a 4 day, 300-mile bicycle ride that raises vital funds for eight MN HIV/AIDS service organizations in Minnesota; providing treatment, prevention and awareness.
Many of you know that last fall I took a leap of faith and started working for The Minnesota AIDS Project full time as Director of Advancement. I guess raising over $18,000.00 myself and over $100,000.00 as a team was a sign from my angels that this is what I am supposed to be doing with my life right now. I made the right decision.
One of the things I have learned at my new job is the stigma around HIV is still very prevalent. People who are HIV+ are ashamed to talk about it, parents and teachers are not educating kids about it and many people think the war is over and there is a cure. While we have made great strides in the areas of medicine and treatment, the stigma and lack of education are still our biggest barriers.
I hope I can count on you once again to support me on my journey of hope for thousands of Minnesotans with HIV/AIDS and those at risk of infection. TOGETHER we will win the war against HIV/AIDS
Thank you for your support!
