GABE THE BABE

RIDE FOR A CURE AND FOR AWARENESS

This year I decided to stand up for something I believe in. The impact of AIDS/HIV is something that stretches across borders, nations, families, races and genders. This year on the anniversary of the 26th year since we gave a name to AIDS I decided I would be riding to make a change.
I ride to help those struggling with the disease and those who don’t yet know they have it, I ride for those who will die and those who live with it and I ride to educate those who do not understand what AIDS/HIV represents. We live in a protected culture, we have cures for many diseases for the wealthy, we may even see ourselves set apart from the problems of the world. I can remember who said it but I feel that “an injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere’. Our world is struggling with AIDS/HIV it is on every continent and people from every country in the world die because of it every day. In countries like Africa much of the population carries the virus. It is something we can fight: Through education, so that people understand what the disease is and what causes it. Prevention, through safe sexual practices, clean medical procedures, and pregnancy screening. Through early detection and proper treatment we can help stop the disease.
This summer I will ride from the Twin Cities to Rochester and back. I will ride 300 miles through rain and heat this July to raise money and awareness for AIDS/HIV. The name of the ride is the Red Ribbon Ride. I am an athletic person but this will be very hard for me. My goal is to raise $5000 . To accomplish my goals I need your support both emotionally and monetarily (if possibly). . I will be posting information as I train for my ride to my web page I would very much like you to leave me feedback on it. I would also love it if anyone wants to go on a training ride with me or wants to come to the ride on any of the 4 days and cheer me on. All of the money donated goes to AIDS/HIV research and to increasing awareness. Please help me fight against a disease that we can conquer if we all work together.
If you've come this far, you probably already know that I'm committed to participating in the 2008 Minnesota Red Ribbon Ride . I'm one of the courageous participants that are taking the challenge to raise funds for eight Minnesota-based AIDS service organizations.
But to achieve this I need your help. In fact, I'm going to need support from many people to reach my goal. I'm hoping that I can count on you to be part of my support team.
I will be training 3-5 days a week. You can generally find me at the Uptown YWCA m-f between 8-10am. If you need any help reaching your training goals feel free to contact me.

Will you help me help our world in fighting AIDs and finding a cure?
